(So you donât have to learn the hard way!)
Weâve done Disney a bunch of times nowâwith babies, toddlers, big kids, strollers, baby carriers, and a LOT of snacks. But I still remember the first few trips when I made rookie mistakes that cost us time, money, and meltdowns.
So in this weekâs Planes, Trains & Strollers episode, Iâm breaking down the 7 mistakes I wish I knew before our early Disney tripsâso you can avoid them on yours!
Letâs save you some stress (and maybe a few bucks too).
1ď¸âŁ Overpaying for Food
Itâs so easy to overspend at Disney if you donât have a plan.
⨠Pro Tip: Use Mobile Order, share larger meals or order kidâs meals for adults (yes, thatâs allowed at Quick Service), and consider a grocery delivery from a service like Away We Go to cover snacks, breakfast items, and drinks.
2ď¸âŁ Skipping the Stroller
Even if your kid doesnât normally use a stroller, Disney is a different beast.
⨠Bring or rent one! You can even buy a used stroller on Marketplace and sell it after your trip. We invested in the Austlen Entourageâfront-to-back, expandable, and it folds easily for buses. (Skip side-by-sides if you plan to use the Skylinerâthey have to be collapsed!)
3ď¸âŁ Underestimating Naps
Trying to power through the day without downtime usually backfires.
⨠Build in rest time, even if itâs a mid-day stroller nap, resort break, or time in an air-conditioned Baby Care Center (trust meâtheyâre a dream).
4ď¸âŁ Waiting in Long Lines for Characters
Standing in the sun for 45 minutes just to meet Mickey?
⨠Instead, book character dining! Youâll meet multiple characters while enjoying a mealâand everyoneâs happier (especially your toddler who canât stand still).
5ď¸âŁ Forgetting Ear Protection
Parades, fireworks, ridesâDisney is LOUD.
⨠Bring soft ear protection for babies and sensitive kids. And yes, you can also buy them in the Baby Care Center if you forget!
6ď¸âŁ Canât Do Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique?
Canât snag a reservation or want to save money?
⨠Go with independent princess styling services like Princess Glam outside the park or bring your own sparkle kit and DIY in your room. A pretty dress, a bun, and a sprinkle of pixie dust go a long way.
7ď¸âŁ Overpacking (and Still Forgetting Stuff)
Carrying everything all day is exhaustingâand youâll still forget something.
⨠Instead of overstuffing your suitcase, use grocery pickup or delivery for diapers, wipes, sunscreen, and snacks. Itâs easy, cheaper than buying in the park, and youâll have less to haul through the airport.
