(So you don’t have to learn the hard way!)

We’ve done Disney a bunch of times now—with babies, toddlers, big kids, strollers, baby carriers, and a LOT of snacks. But I still remember the first few trips when I made rookie mistakes that cost us time, money, and meltdowns.

So in this week’s Planes, Trains & Strollers episode, I’m breaking down the 7 mistakes I wish I knew before our early Disney trips—so you can avoid them on yours!

Let’s save you some stress (and maybe a few bucks too).

1️⃣ Overpaying for Food

It’s so easy to overspend at Disney if you don’t have a plan.
✨ Pro Tip: Use Mobile Order, share larger meals or order kid’s meals for adults (yes, that’s allowed at Quick Service), and consider a grocery delivery from a service like Away We Go to cover snacks, breakfast items, and drinks.

2️⃣ Skipping the Stroller

Even if your kid doesn’t normally use a stroller, Disney is a different beast.
✨ Bring or rent one! You can even buy a used stroller on Marketplace and sell it after your trip. We invested in the Austlen Entourage—front-to-back, expandable, and it folds easily for buses. (Skip side-by-sides if you plan to use the Skyliner—they have to be collapsed!)

3️⃣ Underestimating Naps

Trying to power through the day without downtime usually backfires.
✨ Build in rest time, even if it’s a mid-day stroller nap, resort break, or time in an air-conditioned Baby Care Center (trust me—they’re a dream).

4️⃣ Waiting in Long Lines for Characters

Standing in the sun for 45 minutes just to meet Mickey?
✨ Instead, book character dining! You’ll meet multiple characters while enjoying a meal—and everyone’s happier (especially your toddler who can’t stand still).

5️⃣ Forgetting Ear Protection

Parades, fireworks, rides—Disney is LOUD.
✨ Bring soft ear protection for babies and sensitive kids. And yes, you can also buy them in the Baby Care Center if you forget!

6️⃣ Can’t Do Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique?

Can’t snag a reservation or want to save money?
✨ Go with independent princess styling services like Princess Glam outside the park or bring your own sparkle kit and DIY in your room. A pretty dress, a bun, and a sprinkle of pixie dust go a long way.

7️⃣ Overpacking (and Still Forgetting Stuff)

Carrying everything all day is exhausting—and you’ll still forget something.
✨ Instead of overstuffing your suitcase, use grocery pickup or delivery for diapers, wipes, sunscreen, and snacks. It’s easy, cheaper than buying in the park, and you’ll have less to haul through the airport.
